Marta Vieira da Silva, the striker for Brazil Women team is inching closer to winning her 6th FIFA Ballon D’or award, which will be a record to beat, if she achieves this feat.
A shortlist of 10 players has been released by FIFA for the 2013 edition scheduled to hold on January, 13th 2014 in Zurich Switzerland.
FIFA also listed current holder, Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan of USA, Germany’s Nadine Angerer and Lena Goessling.
Others are Nilla Fischer and Lotta Schelin of Sweden, Japan’s duo of Saki Kumagai, Yuki Ogimi and Christine Sinclair of Canada.
Marta has been named FIFA world player of the year five consecutive times, in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, which shows an indication of her high standing in the game.
During her richly successful career, the Brazilian star has also helped take her national team further in international competition than ever before, but unfortunately she is yet to claim either Olympic gold or the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Nevertheless, the striker for Swedish club side, Tyreso FF has continued to delight fans with her skills.
