Nigeria qualifies for semi final after beating Uruguay 2-0
Three-time champions Nigeria booked their place in the semi-finals of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in UAE with a 2-0 win over Uruguay in Sharjah. Taiwo Awoniyi – deputising for the injured Success Isaac – scored both goals in a game that was a true test of the Golden Eaglets’ title aspirations. The African favourites will now meet Sweden in the semi-final round, in a replay of their 3-3 Group F draw.
ASUU strike: Nigerian universities must reopen next week, with or without ASUU – FG
In a last ditch effort to resolve the ASUU strike, President Goodluck Jonathan will on Monday, November 4, meet with the leadership of ASUU at the Presidential Villa, according to Scan news.
This was part of the resolutions of the meeting between the ASUU leadership, Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Supervising Minister of Education on Tuesday as was first reported by this medium.

Robbers drove us to bank at night, forced us to withdraw cash with ATM cards –Robbery victim
Julius Adegun had on Saturday, September 21, 2013, boarded a commercial bus from Abule-Egba, on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expresssway, around 10.30pm.
He was heading to Iyana-Ipaja but had no idea he had boarded the bus with a three-man gang of robbers. The events that unfolded later were to confound him because it was one he had never heard of.
“I had heard of robbers waylaying people after they had used the ATM before. I had even heard of people being ambushed immediately they were about to use the ATM and forced to withdraw certain amount of money by robbers. But I never imagined I would be a victim of this kind of robbery,” he said.

At 5'8" Merve Dibo isn't a particularly short lady, but next to her giant groom Sultan Kosen, who looms at an enormous 8'3", she looks positively tiny.

Nigeria To Experience Partial Eclipse On Sunday Nov 3
Nigeria will experience a partial solar eclipse on Sunday November 3, the Director-General of National Biotechnical Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr Saidu Mohammed, has said.
The solar eclipse will come with mild darkness across the 36 states of the federation, the NASRDA boss said.
An eclipse is an astronomical event that will have the earth thrown into temporal or partial darkness as the moon blocks the sun’s rays from reaching the earth.
The Director-General therefore advised Nigerians to remain calm, as the eclipse would not affect satellite communications or air services.
FIFA U-17 World Cup: Nigeria vs Uruguay (Preview)
Nigeria will play South American representative Uruguay on Saturday 02/11 at 20:00 (8pm Nigerian time) in a quarterfinal match for a place in the last four of the tournament at Sharjar, Sharjar Stadium.

More Shocking revelations on bulletproof cars deals
The House of Representatives’ public investigation on the purchase of two BMW armoured cars continued yesterday with more chilling revelations on the transaction, emerging.
This came as the Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah and the House committee disagreed on the date and time of appearance before the panel. While the minister, who travelled to Israel to sign the Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) requested that she be allowed to face the panel on November 4, the committee insisted that she must appear before it tomorrow at 10 am.
Counter Protest: Anti-corruption protesters want Oduah jailed
Protesters on Wednesday stormed the Lagos Office of the Independent Corrupt Practice and Other Related Offences Commission, requesting that the embattled Minister of Aviation, Ms Stella Oduah, be tried and jailed if found guilty.
The protesters, who stormed the ICPC office around 10.15am, defied confrontation by armed policemen who shot thrice into the air and civil defence officers to gain entrance into the premises of the commission.

Oduah Now to Appear Before House Committee on Wednesday
Princess Stella Oduah, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation will now appear at House of Representatives’ Committee on Aviation public hearing on alleged purchase of two BMW cars for N255million by Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority on Wednesday 30 0ctober.
The Minister, who is currently part of the presidential entourage to Israel, was earlier scheduled to appear before the Committee on 29 October.

A disappointing Nigeria’s Super Eagles ‘B’ team fell 1-0 to Jordan in a friendly played in Amman on Monday.

We may order arrest of Aviation Minister — Reps
The House of Representatives is threatening to issue a bench warrant for the arrest of embattled Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, if, by Tuesday, she fails to appear before its Committee on Aviation.
Oduah had been summoned to answer questions on aviation related issues on the heels of the Associated Airlines plane crash last month.
The minister will obviously also respond to the lawmakers on the two controversial armoured BMW cars said to have been bought for her by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
FG may stop electricity subsidy in 2014
The Federal Government may discontinue the provision of subsidy on electricity for low income consumers from next year, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has said.
This, according to the commission, will affect low income electricity consumers in the Residential 1 and 2 and Commercial-1 cadres.
The General Manager, Government and Consumer Affairs, NERC, Dr. Tony Akah, stated this at the Power Consumers Assembly in Nnewi and Onitsha, Anambra State.
Canada begins compulsory fingerprint for Nigerian visa applicants
The Canadian High Commission in Nigeria says Nigerians applying for visa to the North American country will henceforth be required to provide their fingerprints.
It said the new requirement which took effect from October 23, was introduced to check fraud, facilitate legitimate travel by making entry into the country easier.
According to the High Commission, applicants will need to go in person to a visa application centre to submit their application and give their fingerprints as well as have their photograph taken.
Policeman, NSCDC officer crushed while rescuing accident victims
A policeman and an official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps lost their lives while attempting to rescue victims of a road accident in the Ikeja area of Lagos State on Saturday.
According to police authorities, policemen attached to the State Traffic Division were alerted of a multiple accidents around Ikeja Along Bus Stop on the Agege Motor Road and had rushed to the scene around 7am.
On getting to the scene, the police team noticed the corpses of two pedestrians at the centre of the expressway.

The Turkish farmer – who at 8ft three ins, dwarfs his 5ft 8 ins fiancee – is set to marry Merve Dibo in a ceremony today.
Kosen has long been searching for a woman to share his life with, and had reportedly given up hope – until he met Ms Dibo.

Marta Close To Clinching 6th FIFA Ballon d’Or Award
Marta Vieira da Silva, the striker for Brazil Women team is inching closer to winning her 6th FIFA Ballon D’or award, which will be a record to beat, if she achieves this feat.
A shortlist of 10 players has been released by FIFA for the 2013 edition scheduled to hold on January, 13th 2014 in Zurich Switzerland.
FIFA also listed current holder, Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan of USA, Germany’s Nadine Angerer and Lena Goessling.
Others are Nilla Fischer and Lotta Schelin of Sweden, Japan’s duo of Saki Kumagai, Yuki Ogimi and Christine Sinclair of Canada.

Woman sold virginity of her 12 daughters for $200 each
Colombian mother is accused of selling the virginity of her 12 daughters for about $200 a piece to make ends meet.
Margarita de Jesus Zapata Moreno, 45, was arrested this week along with a 51-year-old contractor accused of impregnating one of the young girls, Colombia’s RCN Radio reported.
Police in Bogota uncovered the alleged sex trafficking after the 14-year-old girl refused to get an abortion and reported the pair to authorities.
16-year-old wife stabs husband to death
A young couple’s union has ended tragically in Ondo with the 16-year-old wife stabbing his husband to death during an argument. The murder incident, which occurred last Monday at Omolere/Mobil area of Akure threw the metropolis into shock and disbelief.
The housewife and mother of two, Ebere Ogu stabbed her husband, Chinedu Patrick Ogu, 31, in the stomach during a squabble, which broke out over the proposed visit of the husband’s mother from the village.
